The collection contains correspondence, reports, minutes of meetings relating to preparations for Union. These papers include the draft papers of the regulations concerning administrative matters such as presbyteries, property, travelling and ministerial settlements; correspondence and reports of working groups on titles, ministerial education and beneficiary funds; and minutes of meetings and correspondence of the State Joint Planning Committees and the Joint Constitution Council and Commission. There are also minutes and agenda of proceedings of the Inaugural Assembly and papers relating to the Inaugural Service of the Uniting Church.

In June 1977 the Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregational Churches of Australia joined together to form the Uniting Church in Australia. Plans for this merger were first discussed early this century. In 1956 a commission was set up to draft the basis of union and in the early 1970s votes were held on this issue. In the Uniting Church a number of parishes form a Presbytery. The Presbyteries in each state form Synods and the national body of the Church is called the Assembly. From th...
